Energy Bill Relief Fund 2023
The Australian government is partnering with state and territory governments to provide up to $3 billion in electricity bill relief for eligible households and small businesses. You can find more information by visiting the website here.
What does this mean for you?
The electricity bill relief package varies for each state. Payments will be made in instalments starting around July or August 2023 depending on which state you live in and when you receive your bill.
Energy relief payment amounts
Queensland
- $700 for vulnerable households who receive the existing $372 QLD electricity rebate (total of $1,072)
- $550 for all other households with an active electricity account
- $650 for eligible small businesses
South Australia
- $500 for eligible households ($125 paid quarterly), in addition to the SA energy concession
- $650 for eligible businesses ($162.50 paid quarterly)
New South Wales
- $500 for eligible households, in addition to existing NSW energy rebates
- $650 for eligible small businesses
Victoria
- $250 for eligible households, in addition to the VIC electricity concession
- $325 for eligible small businesses
- Plus $250 direct payment to all households by applying for the Power Saving Bonus payment.
Tasmania
- $500 for eligible households, paid as instalments from 2023 to 2025
- $650 for eligible businesses, paid as two credits 2023 to 2024

The Australian Government is providing $3.5 billion to extend and expand the Energy Bill Relief Fund and provide electricity bill rebates to all Australian households and eligible small business electricity customers in 2024-25 to ease cost of living pressures.
All Australian households will receive a $300 rebate and eligible small businesses $325 from the Australian Government, to be paid in quarterly instalments on electricity bills throughout 2024-25.
This is in addition to other concession rebates and cost-of-living support packages from your state government.
Households
- All Australian households are eligible for a $300 annual rebate that will be applied in quarterly instalments to electricity bills from 1 July 2024 in Queensland and 31 July 2024 for all other states.
Small businesses
- Small businesses must meet their state and territory definition of electricity ‘small customer’, as determined by their annual electricity consumption threshold, to be eligible for a $325 annual rebate. The annual electricity consumption threshold for state and territory small customers is provided below.
- Small businesses whose annual electricity consumption is above the threshold set by their state and territory government will not be eligible for bill relief.
