NSW residents who are named on the natural gas account for their principal place of residence and hold a Pensioner Concession Card issued by Services Australia or the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, a Services Australia Health Care Card or Low Income Health Care Card, or a DVA Veteran Gold Card. Commonwealth Seniors Health Card holders are not eligible.

Up to $110 per financial year for retail natural gas customers, applied as a daily credit from the date the customer calls their retailer and applies.

NSW electricity account holders who hold a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card, Low Income Health Care Card or DVA Veteran Gold Card and who, or someone living with them, cannot self-regulate body temperature. The person must be assessed by a registered medical practitioner who has treated them for at least three months and meet at least one Primary Qualifying Condition and one Secondary Qualifying Condition.

Households where the account holder, or someone living with them, uses approved life support equipment at the principal place of residence and the medical requirement has been verified.

The rebate depends on the type of approved life support equipment used.

Download and complete the NSW Government Life Support Rebate application and declaration form. Ask a GP or specialist to complete the medical section, then use our Contact Us page to find the correct way to send the completed form to us. You must reapply every four years. You may receive a rebate for more than one prescribed machine; submit a separate form for each patient if more than one person in the household uses approved equipment.

NSW households experiencing a short-term financial hardship, crisis or emergency that affects their ability to pay a recent residential electricity or natural gas bill. The applicant must be the account holder, or authorised to act for them; the account must still be open; and the most recent bill must not have been paid in full. EAPA cannot be used for a closed account, a previous home or retailer, a business account, or a bill that has already been paid.

Assistance is based on an individual assessment and is provided through EAPA vouchers.

Electricity account holders with a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card who have, or live with someone who has, a medical condition affecting the body’s ability to regulate temperature. Pre-approved conditions include Multiple Sclerosis, lymphoedema, Parkinson’s disease, fibromyalgia, post-polio syndrome/poliomyelitis and Motor Neurone Disease. Other conditions require DFFH approval.

Electricity account holders with a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card who use, or live with someone who uses, an approved intermittent peritoneal dialysis machine, oxygen concentrator or haemodialysis machine at their principal place of residence.

The electricity discount is the cost of 1,880 kilowatt hours (470 kilowatt hours per quarter) of electricity each year, calculated using 1st Energy’s general domestic tariff.

Victorian account holders experiencing temporary financial hardship who cannot pay an overdue mains electricity or gas bill. Applicants may hold a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card. Low-income households without one of these cards may also be eligible following an assessment.

A grant based on the amount owing and the circumstances of the application, up to $650 for each utility type in a two-year period, or up to $1,300 for a household with a single source of energy, such as electricity only.

Queensland Government Electricity and Gas Rebates webpage.

Queensland households having difficulty paying a current electricity or reticulated natural gas bill because of a short-term financial crisis or unforeseen emergency, and meet one of the following criteria:

• hold a current concession card, or
• have an income equal to or less than the Australian Government’s maximum income rate for part-age pensioners. Contact Centrelink for details of the maximum income rate.
• be part of your energy retailer’s hardship program or on a payment plan.

One-off payments up to $720 once every two years, subject to eligibility and assessment.

• have received the oxygen concentrator free of charge through the Medical Aids Subsidy Scheme (MASS)

Kidney dialysis machine

To be eligible, you must:

• have received a home-based kidney dialysis machine free of charge through a Queensland Health hospital.

$1,063.30 per year for each eligible oxygen concentrator or $712.07 per year for each eligible kidney dialysis machine. The concession is calculated monthly and paid quarterly by the Queensland Government into the applicant’s nominated bank account; it does not appear as a credit on the electricity bill.

The rebate is applied to the electricity account by the energy provider.

ACT residents who use prescribed electrically operated life support equipment that is medically required to treat a life-threatening condition.

You must provide the following on a yearly basis:

• Written confirmation from an ACT medical practitioner confirming that an individual of the household is required to use any of the following medical equipment: o dialysis machine o oxygen concentrator o respirator o CPAP regulator o long stay life support o nebuliser o LS reference o TPN device o other apparatus subject to approval.
• Proof that the eligible individual resides in ACT at the address for which the relevant electricity account is held. Only one Life Support Rebate can be claimed per household.

$150 per year for 2026-27, applied to the eligible electricity account at approximately 41.096 cents per day.
