Consumer Data Right (CDR)

The CDR, or Consumer Data right, is overseen by the Australian Government and is a legal, voluntary framework for secure data sharing.

It enables consumers to authorise third parties to securely access their energy data held by retailers. By doing so, consumers can make informed decisions about energy products and services applicable to them and ensure they’re opting for the best value deal.

What we can share

Eligible 1st Energy customers can ask us to share data we hold about them and their energy account (CDR data) with approved third parties called Accredited Data Recipients (ADRs). The ADRs can then use this CDR data to provide information about products and services.

1st Energy can share details such as your name, address and contact information, and information pertaining to your energy account, such as the plan you are on, concession information, payment types, billing/tariff information and your NMI (National Meter Identifier).

Your data safety

The CDR is a safe and secure framework for sharing your data. We’ll only share this data once your explicit consent is provided to us, and only accredited parties will be able to receive this data.  You can access our privacy policy here.

You can access 1st Energy’s Consumer Data right policy here.

How do I share data?

You’re able to share your CDR data with accredited third parties. You access it through a CDR-accredited provider’s website or app. Certified providers are listed at the Government site: https://www.cdr.gov.au/find-a-provider

To use CDR here’s a step-by-step guide:

  1. The site will prompt you to give consent to access your 1st Energy data.
  2. 1st Energy confirms your ID with a one-time code sent to your email address.
  3. The site confirms the data you’d like to share and for how long.
  4. Data is shared securely between providers.
  5. You can then use that data with the third party.

You can also change or revoke your consent at any time be heading to our CDR Consent Dashboard.

Can I change what data is shared?

You can change or revoke your consent for the sharing of your data on the accredited third party’s website or app.

To change your consent for 1st Energy, you can visit our CDR Consent Dashboard. And if you’re still having issues, please call us on 1300 426 594.

If you think any of the CDR data we have shared about you is incorrect, you can ask us to correct it. We’ll let you know who we shared it with and how to ask for the correct data to be shared with them.
