The Standing Solar Sharer offer is based on the Solar Sharer Offer (SSO). The SSO is a regulated standard electricity plan that many retailers are required to make available to residential customers with a smart meter in NSW, South East Queensland and South Australia from 1 July 2026. Its rates are capped by the Australian Energy Regulator and it’s designed to give you 3 hours of free electricity usage every day during the designated free usage window up to a 24 kWh reasonable use cap. This is typically when solar energy generation is at its peak.
Standing Solar Sharer is based on a time-of-use tariff structure, so what you pay overall depends on when you use electricity. It works best if you can shift energy-heavy tasks – like running the dishwasher, doing laundry or charging devices – into that free window. If you can’t, your electricity costs could be higher. You don’t need to have solar panels to get the offer.
Your free usage window
The free period is fixed year-round in local time and does not change on your clock with daylight saving time.
- NSW (Ausgrid, Endeavour and Essential Energy networks): 11am–2pm.
- South East Queensland (Energex network): 11am–2pm.
- South Australia (SA Power Networks): 12pm–3pm.
The free usage window covers usage charges only. Other charges, such as daily supply and controlled load charges still apply during the free usage period.
What happens if you use more than 24 kWh?
Under Standing Solar Sharer, if you use more than the reasonable use cap of 24 kWh of electricity during the 3-hour window, you’ll be charged for usage above the 24 kWh cap at the applicable reasonable use rate, as set out in your Energy Price Fact Sheet.
What you pay outside the free window
Time-of-use rates apply outside the free period. These vary by your distribution network and time of day. Your daily supply charge also applies regardless of how much electricity you use.
Is Standing Solar Sharer right for you?
This offer works best for households that can shift electricity use to the middle of the day. For example, people who work from home or can run appliances during those 3 hours.
If your household uses most of its energy in the evenings or early mornings and you can’t shift it to the free 3-hour window, a different plan may suit you better. You can compare plans online or get in touch and we’ll be happy to help you find another plan.
A smart meter is also required. If you don’t have one, we’ll let you know what’s needed before you can join.
Victoria, ACT and Tasmania
The Solar Sharer Offer is not available in Victoria. A separate Victorian Midday Power Saver scheme is due to start on 1 October 2026. Contact us for more information about the offers available to your household.
The Solar Sharer Offer isn’t available for customers in the ACT or Tasmania.
